Volunteer for Feats of Clay
Feats is just around the corner and we need volunteer help in
many ways. We have a small staff and volunteers are critical to
the success of Feats of Clay. During Feats of Clay we have volunteer
opportunities for the areas listed below. Plus, we can customize
your schedule to work with our schedule. To inquire about volunteer
opportunities, please call Lincoln Arts at 916-645-9713.
Office Help - We need assistance in the office beginning
in February through the end of Feats of Clay. Volunteers may be
used for answering phones, booking tours and answering questions.
We will need assistance in helping to organize the office in anticipation
of Feats of Clay. We will train you for the work you will do.
Requirements - We ask that you be a flexible person. We never
quite know on any day what specific chore you may be doing. At
times, you may be multi-tasking. The ability to lift up to 20
lbs. is helpful, but not necessary. Ability to use a computer
is helpful. Hours and Days - We let you select your schedule,
but we would appreciate at least 4-hours a day. During Feats we
need volunteers Wednesdays thru Sunday from about 8:30 am to 1:30
pm.
Tour
Assistance - There are many moving parts of the Tours including
docents, pushers, canopy help/registration, drivers, and sales
office. Docents - Our docents lead the tours for Feats of Clay.
In order to become a docent, you must have worked as a pusher
for at least one-year. Docents will lead two tours a day. Wednesday
thru Sunday. You provide us the days you can work between April
28 - May 30.
Pushers
- Pushers assist the docent by following behind each tour
group assuring that our guests don't wander off the path and get
lost or touch something they shouldn't. By being a pusher, you
will follow many different docents and learn their stories, techniques,
and tour leadership thereby enabling you to become a docent at
a future time (only if you desire this
many people stay
pushers their entire careers and are just fine with it). As with
the docents, pushers will work two tours per shift. You should
be able to walk at least a mile for each tour. Wednesday thru
Sunday. You provide us the days you can work between April 28
- May 30.
Canopy
help/registration - We need help for each day of our tours
(Wed thru Sunday 9 am - 12:30 pm) to assist people with registration,
signing release forms and answering questions. You may volunteer
for as many or as few days as you like during the tours. We're
looking for people who are friendly and good with customer service.
Wednesday thru Sunday. You provide us the days you can work between
April 28 - May 30.
Drivers
- We shuttle all our guests from our offices at 580 Sixth
Street to the grounds at Gladding, McBean. We have a driver for
our bus to bring them to the site, but we need drivers to bring
people back to 580 Sixth Street via electric golf carts, or our
historic fire engine. We ask that drivers have a valid California
drivers license (have a copy ready to submit to our offices) and
a clean driving record with no felonies. Wednesday thru Sunday.
You provide us the days you can work between April 28 -May 30.
Sales
Office - We sell gifts during Feats of Clay and need help
in our gift shop at 580 Sixth Street. In 2010, we will NOT have
the gift shop located in the kiln at Gladding, McBean and the
only gift shop will be located at 580 Sixth Street. Ability to
be customer friendly and handle cash is the requirement.
Opening Night Benefit Reception - We kick off Feats of
Clay at our Opening Night Benefit Reception. In 2010, the reception
will be held on Saturday, April 24 from 6 pm - 9 pm. We need help
during the day setting up the facility and during the reception:
Duties include: Ticket taking, release form signers, crowd control,
artwork monitors, clean up and more. We ask that these volunteers
dress in black and white for the evening. Each volunteer gets
one free ticket to the event. We ask that our volunteers be flexible
that evening and be willing to accept a new task, if assigned
by a team lead. The day of the Opening Night Reception, we start
setting up at 10 am and work until about 1 pm, then home to dress
up and volunteer again that night if you desire. A great way to
meet the artists and leaders in Lincoln.
Volunteer T-shirts - Most volunteers purchase our Feats
of Clay T-shirts to wear at all Feats related events (except Opening
Night Reception). For another year, local artist Jean Cross will
be designing the shirts. It will have the artwork from this year's
poster on it and should be really striking. It will be available
to volunteers at the wholesale price of $8.Please
let us know the size you want for the T- shirt. T-shirts should
be available at the training sessions in early April. Very few
excess shirts will be produced, so please get your order in early
to the staff at Lincoln Arts. To help you decide the size that's
best - here's some info - shirt will
be a Hanes tee and their size scale seems to run M (38-40), L
(42-44), XL
(46-48) and 2XL (50-52). Let us know your size preference ASAP
and come prepared to pay for and pick up your shirt at the training
sessions.
We encourage you to become a Lincoln Arts and Culture Foundation
